Microsoft’s AI Economy Institute (AIEI) has announced its fourth global research funding opportunity. Microsoft’s AI Economy Institute, which was established in 2025, funds independent studies that look at how AI is changing productivity, labor markets, economies, and educational systems. The center aims to produce data that will enable corporations, schools, workers, and legislators to properly address the swift development of generative AI technology. Designing for Augmented Work is the subject of the fourth study cohort, which examines how businesses might utilize AI to increase worker productivity, change workplace structures, open up new business opportunities, and alter labor markets.

Proposals analyzing the organizational factors that influence how artificial intelligence generates societal and economic value are being accepted for the fourth AIEI research call. The main focus of the study is AI and employment, creating enhanced work. The program investigates how the connection between AI technologies and human labor is influenced by workplace design, organizational structures, incentives, accountability mechanisms, and skill development. Researchers are urged to look into both the advantages and disadvantages of adopting AI, such as scenarios in which technology enhances human capacities and those in which automation lowers professional expertise or replaces individuals.
