Not all German scholarships are intended for those with flawless resumes and simple lives. The SIST LMU Equality Scholarship at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität für (LMU Munich) adopts a different strategy. It integrates academic excellence with financial necessity. Therefore, rather than being a scholarship for admission to the institution, the opportunity is better viewed as financial help for qualified overseas members of the LMU community.

Both financial necessity and a qualifying disability or refugee history must be proven by applicants. Proof may pertain to conditions like a chronic illness or disability. Applicants with a history of refugee status may also be eligible. Applicants must not have obtained their Abitur and/or a previous German university degree in Germany or at a German school abroad.
