World Bank Small AI Hackathon 2026 for International Students:
Applications are invited to apply for the World Bank Small AI Hackathon 2026 in South Korea. All International applicants can apply. Young inventors are encouraged by the competition to think about how AI might be made more useful and accessible in underdeveloped nations. The winners will be invited to spend October 3–4, 2026, in Seoul, South Korea. All expenses, including airfare, lodging, meals, and visa assistance, will be paid for by the World Bank. The World Bank Group and its partners are hosting the Small AI for Development Hackathon Challenge 2026, which is open to young innovators with an interest in artificial intelligence, technology, agriculture, healthcare, or tourism. Participants between the ages of 18 and 35 are invited to create useful AI solutions that can function in settings with constrained resources and connectivity. Individuals or teams of up to four people may compete. The goal of the Small AI for Development Hackathon is to develop AI solutions that can function in settings with limited internet access, processing power, cellphones, and digital infrastructure.
The World Bank Group’s Digital and AI Vice Presidency, in partnership with the Youth Summit, Development Economics Vice Presidency (DEC), and Information and Technology Solutions (ITS), and managed by Hack-Nation, invites young innovators to spend a weekend creating a functional small AI solution to a real development challenge. Participants are urged to develop targeted and useful AI solutions centered around a particular issue rather than constructing massive, all-purpose AI systems. Solutions may involve technologies such as AI models running locally, SMS and voice-based tools, sensors, microcontrollers, predictive AI, generative AI, and AI agents. Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35 while submitting an application.
- Candidates must come from a nation that is a member of the World Bank.
- Applicants must apply alone or with a group of up to four people.
- Send in your competition entry and application in English.
- Applicants must take part in a single competition entry.
- Make sure each member of the team registers separately.
- Before taking part, applicants must fulfill the qualifying conditions.
- Candidates from developing nations are especially urged to submit an application.
