MIT KSJ Fellowship 2026 for International Students:

Knight Science Journalism is referred to as KSJ. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, offers a nine-month fellowship program. All citizens of all nations are eligible for the fellowship. The Knight Science Journalism Fellowship does not need language competence exams.

The Knight Science Journalism Program at MIT aims to enhance science journalism in the public interest by developing and improving journalists’ capacity to correctly and carefully illuminate science and its connection with human culture. One of the most prestigious journalism fellowships in the world, it was established in 1983 under the direction of its founding director, Victor McElheny. The main backer of the program, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, along with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the Mellon Foundation, and the Kavli Foundation, recognized early on the importance of the KSJ goal in fostering and advancing science journalism. Objectives:

  • A research project in the subject of journalism will be completed by fellows.
  • Long-form narratives, multimedia reporting, audio and video projects, and research for book ideas were among the projects completed by previous fellows.

  • The dissemination of false information, the use of AI in journalism, and the health consequences of coal ash pollution have all been investigated in previous projects.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • International applicants are welcome to apply for the Fellowship.
  • Candidates must be full-time journalists who are either freelancers or employed by media outlets.
  • A minimum of three years of experience reporting on science, health, technology, or the environment.
  • Candidates may work in
    • Print,
    • digital, or
    • broadcast media as
    • reporters,
    • writers,
    • editors,
    • producers,
    • illustrators,
    • filmmakers, or
    • photojournalists.
  • In the two years prior to applying for the Knight Science Journalism Fellowship, candidates cannot have finished a fellowship lasting four months or more.
  • There is no application fee.
  • The English Language Test is not required.
