The fully funded Iceland Writers Retreat Program 2026 is currently accepting applications from writers worldwide, regardless of their expertise or background, according to the IWR. It will be held in Reykjavík from April 15 to 19, 2026. The five-day program connects gifted authors and helps them improve their writing abilities. IELTS is not necessary, nor is it necessary to be a professional writer; all interested candidates are welcome.

The Iceland Writers Retreat provides financial assistance to a chosen group of brilliant writers who otherwise could not afford to attend. The generosity of IWR alumni and friends makes these gifts possible. The Iceland Writers Retreat is held once a year, in April, for authors, writers, and book lovers. The Iceland Writers Retreat offers up to nine two-hour writing sessions, each with a maximum of 15 participants, taught by our featured authors. You will be able to choose from over 20 workshops. In order to be considered for the Iceland Writers Retreat Program 2026, students must:

• Applicants must be at least eighteen years old to be eligible.
• People with varying backgrounds and degrees of writing expertise are encouraged to apply.
• All citizens of all nations are eligible to enter the competition.
• English language proficiency is necessary, although IELTS is not.
• Two main criteria will be used to select the recipients:
  • The potential as a writer that they exhibit (or have shown).
