Applications are invited to apply for the CATS Fellowship Programs 2025 in Germany. All International students are welcome to apply for these fellowships in Berlin, Germany. This fellowship aims to expand your knowledge while influencing practical policy discussions, whether you’re studying Turkey’s internal political upheavals, social changes, or changing international ties with Europe, NATO, and neighboring countries. Fellowships for scholars, think tank members, and practitioners focusing on Turkey-related topics are being offered by the Centre for Applied Turkey Studies. A special chance to join one of Europe’s top policy research environments has been made available through the opening of the prestigious CATS Fellowships for the 2025–2026 academic year at the Centre for Applied Turkey Studies (CATS) at Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP), the German Institute for International and Security Affairs in Berlin. This fellowship enables scholars to conduct rigorous, policy-relevant research to help bridge understanding and enlighten decision-makers in light of growing regional uncertainty and divergent EU-Turkey objectives.

CATS serves as the curator of the CATS Network and is based at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin. CATS delivers information to the public and media and advises political decision-makers in Germany and Europe based on its research. Applications are also welcome from researchers with a strong track record of studying Turkey but without a PhD. Researchers from the SWP and CATS will be able to work together with the chosen CATS fellows. Research findings may be published as peer-reviewed SWP and CATS articles. Research Theme:

The CAT fellowship funds creative endeavors in the following areas:

  • Internal political, social, and cultural developments of Turkey.
  • Turkey’s position in neighboring regions, the EU, or transatlantic ties.
  • diaspora studies, the defense industry, migration, and security policy.
  • anything about Turkey that is both academically and policy-relevant.
  • The goal of applicants should be to combine theoretical rigor with practical policy significance.

Documents Required:

  • Cover Letter – 1 page, indicating preferred start date and duration
  • Scanned copies of academic transcripts.
  • A research proposal should be no more than five pages, 1.5 spaces, 12 points, Times New Roman, and include the following topics:
    • title, goals, and policy relevance.
    • Review of the literature and current research
    • Framework for methodology and theory
    • List of references
  • Updated Curriculum vitae (CV) or Resume

Eligibility Criteria:

To be considered for the CATS Fellowship Programs 2025 in Germany, you must fulfill these eligibility criteria:

  • Policy experts, think tank members, and seasoned researchers are tackling problems about Turkey.
  • Early-career academics with a strong research record, including PhD candidates who have made significant strides in studies with a Turkish focus.
  • Candidates who are keen to connect their scholarly work to the influence of policy.
