The Ernst Mach Grant—ASEA-UNINET 2027, funded by Austria’s Federal Ministry of Women, Science and Research and administered by OeAD in collaboration with ASEA-UNINET, offers three routes: a 36-month Full PhD in Austria, a 4-to-6-month postdoctoral research grant, and a nine-month Music Practice award. ASEA-UNINET acts as a role model for cooperation and quality research between Europe and the ASEAN region. Recognizing the process of increasing globalization and of continuous internationalization of education and research, ASEA-UNINET builds its success on equal footing in collaboration and by fostering scientific and intercultural exchange.
ASEA-UNINET was founded in 1994 by Austrian and Southeast Asian (Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese) universities as an association of European and Southeast Asian universities with the mission to encourage and facilitate relationships between universities, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and economic operators engaged in projects related to education, science, technology, innovation, and art in the countries of the member universities. Financial benefits:
- With a €1,300 monthly scholarship financing plus a €300 monthly mobility allowance, the Full PhD route is unquestionably the greatest option in this competition.
- Over the course of a possible 36-month doctorate, the monthly total is €1,600.
- However, OeAD makes it clear that this is a supplemental award and cautions that applicants must provide their own funding.
- Scholars are responsible for covering their own housing and health insurance costs, which are currently projected to be between €55 and €200 per month.
- Another factor that applicants should not take casually is tuition, which is “fully waived.” Since tuition at Austrian public universities may be waived upon request, the scholarship does not automatically result in a universal tuition exemption. Particularly, this clause does not apply to private university fees.
- This strengthens the scholarship’s financial position, but referring to each path as “fully funded” would be an exaggeration of the statutory wording.
- A sizable government-funded PhD stipend, which would still necessitate personal budgeting for housing, insurance, and other educational expenses, is a better comparable.
