Through its graduate school for economics, social sciences, planning, and management, EGSESAM, the University of Lille in France, has launched the France Excellence Eiffel Scholarship 2027. Start with a research issue that a Lille supervisor can assist you with if you’re thinking about getting a PhD. A solid academic background is important, but your application also has to make a compelling connection between the host research team, the planned thesis, and your prior training.
Coordination is necessary for the application: the doctoral school evaluates the file, you produce the academic proof, a supervisor supports the project, and Lille determines whether to submit your candidacy to Campus France. This process cannot be finished by sending documents straight to the national scholarship portal. Create a file that the institution can review after determining your eligibility and supervision arrangements. Must check University of Lincoln Global Leaders Scholarship 2027 in UK (Funded).

Financial benefits:
- Living support: €2,000 per month, with travel and insurance services under Eiffel rules.
- Housing assistance does not mean free rent.
- While fee exemptions and remaining expenses must be verified independently, Eiffel offers a living allowance and supporting services.
- Subject to program requirements, the doctoral allowance is accompanied by insurance, domestic and international transportation assistance, and help finding housing.
- For qualifying national diplomas at qualified public universities, holders of French government scholarships are not required to pay registration fees.
- There are no extra training costs for Eiffel. Request written confirmation from Lille on the exemption that applies to your PhD and any outstanding fees.
- Create a budget for your first arrival costs, a housing deposit, and rent. Additionally, demonstrate how the remainder of the PhD will be paid for in the event of a shorter research stay.
- While a 12-month scholarship is a significant amount of assistance, it is hardly three years of funding.
- Eiffel cannot be paired with an Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie scholarship, Erasmus+, or another French government scholarship. Eiffel status is also incompatible with a salaried doctoral contract. Before suggesting a combination, have Lille examine your current funds.
Documents Required:

Eligibility Criteria:
- You must be a foreign national, have a doctoral project that qualifies, and have been born after March 31, 1991.
- The school’s broader topic portfolio does not automatically make every discipline eligible for this specific call; the current notice identifies economics and management.
- Priority is given to applicants who are studying abroad.
- Although the lengthier award has a specific new-arrival criterion, being in France does not automatically disqualify you from receiving Doctorate Eiffel financing.
- Language: This call does not specify a set IELTS score. Your language proficiency must be approved by Lille for the intended study.
- To determine the best path, use your planned doctoral year and supervision arrangement:
| Your proposed situation | Maximum Eiffel support | What to confirm with Lille |
|---|---|---|
| PhD candidate in their first year of study who is not currently enrolled in a French university | 36 months | International co-supervision is not required, and a cotutelle is not included. |
| Admission to the second or third year of a PhD program with international co-supervision or a cotutelle | 12 months | Money outside of the Eiffel time and the approved supervision arrangement. |
| Admission to the second year of a PhD program under international co-supervision or a cotutelle | 18 months | If the lengthier mobility award is appropriate for the planned research stay. |
- A formal joint doctorate arrangement between universities is called a “cotutelle”; “codirection” refers to co-supervision. While Lille’s statement details shorter rewards for second- or third-year admission, the national regulations also allow an 18-month award in the first doctorate year.
- Ask EGSESAM to indicate if it will accept first-year financing under joint supervision.
- Any prior Eiffel application or award should be disclosed.
- A former doctorate recipient is not eligible for another Eiffel doctoral degree, and a failed doctoral application cannot be resubmitted at the same level.
- Former Eiffel master’s degree holders might be eligible for doctoral financing, but not for the 36-month path.

How to Apply for the University of Lille Eiffel Scholarship?
- Examine the research interests of the qualified thesis supervisors listed in EGSESAM’s directory. Bring your resume, academic transcripts, and a brief project plan to a relevant academic, and let them know that you are looking for Eiffel’s consideration.
- Inquire with EGSESAM and your prospective supervisor about the project’s suitability for the call, the term of the scholarship, and the required submission location.
- Get the application and sworn statement for Lille’s Eiffel 2027–2028 call.
- Choose Bourse Doctorat, fill out your sections, and provide the PDFs.
- According to Lille’s general guidelines, attachments should be in a single PDF, the form and declarations should be packaged according to EGSESAM’s specifications, and staff assessments and signatures should be left to the appropriate officials.
- Give your laboratory and supervisor enough time to go over the case and get signatures; find out if they require an earlier handover date.
- For doctoral candidates, EGSESAM employs ADUM and needs a designated laboratory as well as supervisor approval. Request the admission order that applies to admittance in 2027–2028; an Eiffel proposal by itself does not finish admission.
- There is no mention of a scholarship application cost on the call, so check with the school about any additional fees.
- The Campus France Eiffel doctorate platform, which welcomes submissions from French universities, receives selected files via the university’s foreign connections office. Make sure that only one institution has nominated you and get proof that Lille has submitted your file.
