IEG Mainz PhD Fellowship Program 2027 for International Students:

Applications are invited to apply for the IEG Mainz PhD Fellowship Program 2027 in Germany. All International and German doctoral researchers can apply. While attending the Leibniz Institute of European History in Mainz for six to twelve months, you must continue to be enrolled and supervised at your home university. Also, apply for EUI Jean Monnet Fellowship 2027 in Italy for International Researchers.

You should start getting ready for the IEG Mainz Doctoral Fellowship 2027 if you are already doing a PhD in history and require time set aside in Germany to complete your dissertation. European history from the early modern era to the present should be the focus of your project. IEG is especially interested in projects that use digital methodologies, intellectual and religious history, environmental history, comparative or cross-border research, and Europe’s interaction with the rest of the world.

The fellowship mainly helps with dissertation writing and completion. It doesn’t pay for language classes, preliminary research, or turning a finished dissertation into a book. By the deadline, you should typically have spent no more than three years working on your dissertation. Exemptions that are justified may be taken into account. Your dissertation should have a developed idea that will benefit from a six- to twelve-month writing term in Mainz, and your source research must already be sufficiently progressed.
