Not all German scholarships are intended for those with flawless resumes and simple lives. The SIST LMU Equality Scholarship at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität für (LMU Munich) adopts a different strategy. It integrates academic excellence with financial necessity. Therefore, rather than being a scholarship for admission to the institution, the opportunity is better viewed as financial help for qualified overseas members of the LMU community.
Both financial necessity and a qualifying disability or refugee history must be proven by applicants. Proof may pertain to conditions like a chronic illness or disability. Applicants with a history of refugee status may also be eligible. Applicants must not have obtained their Abitur and/or a previous German university degree in Germany or at a German school abroad. Financial benefits:

- When identifying the target group, LMU specifically incorporates demonstrable financial need, impairment/refugee status, and good academic performance.
Documents Required:
- Completed application form
- Two current academic references from LMU teaching staff.
- Motivation letter
- A formal statement of financial need;
- Proof of impairment and/or qualifying refugee background;

- Both recommendations should originate from the applicant’s single major. One should typically come from each of the two majors.
- If an applicant’s monthly salary is less than €695, they can still be qualified for the entire scholarship computation. If a person’s monthly salary falls between €695 and €1,345, the scholarship may be reduced.
